Watercolour Manufacturers
Watercolour papers can be hand made, mould made or made on a fordrinier, which is a fully automated papermaking machine. One of the most popular papers is Bockingford and is good for beginner watercolourists. This is cotton-based paper and is made at Cheddar. Saunders also make a good paper as do Two Rivers, which is a handmade paper. Whatman is being made once more. They ceased to manufacture about 1960, but the firm dated from 1780 and many early watercolourists used their papers, including J.M.W.Turner. Arches is a well-established French paper and although a bit more expensive is a very good paper and is produced in NOT and Rough surfaces.
