Pencils and Drawing

Pencils are arranged in order of hardness and softness of the leads, H numbers being hard and B numbers being soft; 1B 2B 3B 4B 5B 6B. For use on watercolour papers hard black to 2B are probably the best to use. If just for drawing on a cartridge paper then softer pencils may be appropriate in some circumstance. Cartridge papers are mainly used for drawing but a lot of artists use cartridge paper for sketching in watercolour. It is very good for that once you get used to the fact that the colours stay on top of the paper for longer and will merge and run into one another more quickly.
