RESEARCH

Once you have started to paint, make use of libraries. They are filled with how to do it books. Pick out the artists you like and learn all you can and then go on to the next. Libraries will also be filled with books on art history with illustrations of famous paintings. Try to visit the National and local art galleries as it is better to see the real thing rather than photographs; also the actual size of the painting will have an effect on you. The Victoria and Albert, Tate Britain and the British have collections.

Watercolours are not often exhibited in our National Galleries except in special display exhibitions, and are more usually kept in private collections or are displayed for sale in commercial galleries, where you can see them. You may have to ring the doorbell and ask politely if you can view the paintings.
