Princess Alice House on Dalgarno Way, was built by Kensington Housing Trust and was opened in 1936 by HRH Princess Alice. (Pictures from Kensington Housing Trust)

This is a story about my best friend Elsie Reeves. Elsie is very special to me and my daughter, so we wanted to know what it was like for her and her family growing up in this neighbourhood, especially her younger years.

Elsie was born in Portobello Road in 1925 and moved to Princess Alice House in June 1929. Elsie lived with her parents and her sister until she got married . When her marriage failed she moved to her own flat at 67 Pepler House, Wornington Road Elsie lived there for over 40 years.

Princess Alice House, a block of 80 flats, was built in 1936 with 80 flats of two to five bedrooms. It was opened by HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone. She lived in Kensington and was a big supporter of Kensington Housing Trust

The flats were full of every convenience, including constant hot water.
